Leela James is a throwback to 60's soul music. The first single, Music, off her first album is a lament of the current state of contemporary popular music. She condemns the glorification of materialism and misogyny that has often been attributed to the lyrical content of contemporary R&B and hip hop songs while pleading for the return of the artistry, dedication, and sincerity displayed by musicians of earlier decades. Amen!
The Al Green cover, Simply Beautiful is off her second release, Let's Do It Again As it's title says, the song itself is simply beautiful. Simple and very soulful.
